HSE: Safety equipment checks showing up bad practice already Just a few days after the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) launched nationwide inspections on the refurbishment industry, numerous instances of bad practice have been identified.

Following ten checks in the border regions by the Scottish branch of HSE, five prohibition notices were handed out for poor practice while working at height.

While this 50 per cent figure may seem high, it pales in comparison to the results of inspections in Aberdeen, where ten out of 11 building sites were told to stop work immediately.

HSE spokesman Jim Skilling said: "Our inspectors were appalled at the willingness to ignore basic safety precautions.

"We will not tolerate poor standards and will take appropriate enforcement action proactively as well as when an accident occurs."

Mr Skilling added that dangerous practices were taking place even at the simplest levels of health and safety, although he did not explain which items of protective equipment these involved.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18466215-ADNFCR
