HSE: Shattered Lives campaign could affect you The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched its Shattered Lives Campaign in Nottingham this week, to demonstrate the consequences of trips, slips and falls at work.

Shattered Lives offers support and advice to employers and their staff regarding health, safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) issues.

HSE inspector for Nottinghamshire Sian Tiernan commented: "Each year slips, trips and falls cost the British society nearly £811 million pounds. But what these figures don't reflect is the extent to which these injuries affect individual workers and their families."

According to the HSE one person dies in the workplace every week as a result of trip[s] and falls - and for others it can lead to "a lifetime of disability".

The HSE advises employers to have a risk assessment plan in place and ensure that workers are trained and have access to the PPE they require, including slip-resistant footwear and easily visible floor signs and barriers.
