HSE: Teamwork improves workplace safety

HSE: Teamwork improves workplace safety Employers should work in conjunction with their staff to avoid accidents in the workplace, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The body said employers should exert leadership to encourage a health and safety culture within their organisations.

Figures released by the HSE for the east of England found that one person died every fortnight at work during last year.

Simon Longbottom, HSE operations manager for the east of England, urged businesses to take practical action to improve safety in the region's workplaces.

"Evidence shows that where employers and employees work closely together to agree the agenda and set targets to tackle real risks, they have made significant improvements," he said.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers are expected to provide as much safety as reasonably practicable for their staff at work.

Training staff in the appropriate use of workwear, as well as using personal protective equipment such as safety signs and safety helmet is one way businesses can achieve this.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18968788-ADNFCR
