HSE calls for co-operation in oil industry safety The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has called for improved co-operation between employees, businesses and safety groups to drive up the standard of health and safety provision in the offshore oil industry.

A representative of the watchdog addressed business leaders at an event organised by the Offshore Industry Advisory Committee, emphasising the need for safety matters to be discussed collaboratively.

In particular, the regulator stressed the importance of allowing employees to be personally involved in health and safety promotion, and stated that workforces with safety representatives and union support are likely to be safer and healthier.

Gordon MacDonald, head of the hazardous installations directorate at the HSE, said at the conference: "It is vital that we have strong and well supported safety representatives and committees, coupled with a workforce that is actively involved in improving health and safety."

Among the safety measures recommended by the HSE for offshore work is the wearing of appropriate safety equipment and clothing such as safety gloves and safety helmets.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19216389-ADNFCR
