HSE chief praises safety of construction site A construction site in Salford Quays has received praise from the chair of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for its "innovative ways of reducing risk".

As part of her visit to the MediaCityUK development site, Judith Hackitt saw a new scaffolding system that has been designed in such a way that virtually eliminates the risk of falls from height.

In addition, the structure comprises of fewer parts than conventional scaffolding, which means that it is less likely to have missing parts when it is used.

Ms Hackett noted that it was "encouraging to see such commitment to health and safety", while she also warned that the HSE is always prepared to punish firms that fail to meet the required standards.

She said: "The scale and scope of this project is truly impressive and to have had the opportunity to go on site and see it taking shape is an experience that will stay with me."

According to official HSE statistics, the construction industry experiences a disproportionately high number of injuries and fatalities each year.

As a consequence, the safety authority implores people employed within the industry to use safety helmets and safety gloves to minimise risks.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19664782-ADNFCR
