HSE continues its Shattered Lives initiative The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is to launch a new phase of its Shattered Lives campaign to raise awareness regarding workplace injuries in the midlands region.

The safety body recently revealed that major injuries were caused to more than 50 people in Walsall as a result of slips, trips and falls in 2009.

Further to this, the HSE found that 185 workers in the borough were affected by incidents in 2008-09.

It is estimated that slips, trips and falls in the workplace costs the UK as much as £800 million every year.

Rosi Edwards, HSE West Midlands regional director, stressed that these types of incidents must be treated with a greater degree of importance.

She said: "Making improvements doesn't need to cost the earth and we are encouraging people to visit the Shattered Lives site, where they will be able to get simple and cost-effective solutions to help manage slips, trips and falls hazards in their workplace."

Meanwhile, the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations (1992) state that construction workers should use safety boots to help ensure that they do not slip or fall on a building site.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19607673-ADNFCR
