HSE decides not to appeal IC's death disclosure decision The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced that it will not contest the decision made by the Information Commissioner (IC) that the names of those who die in work-related deaths must be disclosed.

Once the coroner's inquest has opened, the IC has ruled that names must be published, reports Safety & Health Practitioner Magazine.

The issue came to the attention of the IC after the Centre for Corporate Accountability tried to get access to the information in order to track how deaths are dealt with by investigation bodies.

It has also been decided that the information does not have to be provided by the HSE more than once a month.

The most recent figures from the HSE revealed that there had been 228 deaths in the workplace in the last year.

However, in a letter to the Financial Times, Ray Hurst, president of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, stated that this number is still not acceptable.

Firms wishing to minimise the chances of an accident resulting in a fatality may wish to ensure that workers are provided with suitable personal protective equipment such as hi vis clothing and safety helmets.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18748158-ADNFCR
