HSE gives safety sign warning The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning about the use of safety signs and suggested that other forms of safety equipment should perhaps be used in conjunction with them.

As part of its monthly series where it dispels commonly held myths, the organisation said that safety signs are important and useful in areas where there is a risk, but warned against using them for "trivial" things - because the more safety signs there are, the less people will take notice.

The HSE also said that when signs are called for, it might be useful to use other safety equipment as well.

"Where there are serious risks in your workplace, don't just rely on signs - take practical steps to deal with them," it said.

"If you do need a sign, make sure it has the right symbol and is clearly visible."
