HSE in reminder of machinery safety Companies may think about investing in safety gloves following one incident which left a worker with an arm injury.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has warned against the dangers of poor risk assessment and a lack of preventative measures after the employee's arm was dragged into an unguarded potato blanching machine.

Helen Mansfield, the investigating inspector at HSE, said: "A young worker has suffered a life-long injury that could easily have been prevented."

The woman broke three bones in her arm and dislocated her elbow as a result of the incident.

She later had to have a metal plate inserted into her arm and the company was fined for failing to put the necessary safety measures in place.

Another company in Northern Ireland was recently fined when a worker became trapped in a machine after coming into contact with the conveyor drum, resulting in the arm having to be amputated.
