HSE investigation after man crushed on building site The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will start an investigation into an accident on a building site in Hampshire in which a worker was crushed by a steel girder.

It took firefighters almost an hour to free the man but the police later stated that he had sustained "serious but not life-threatening" injuries.

A spokesman for the construction firm commented: "The company places a great deal of emphasis on health and safety and the avoidance of accidents and clearly an incident of this nature needs to be investigated."

He added that in addition to the HSE investigation the company would conduct its own examination of the circumstances surrounding the accident and that a Polish contractor was carrying out work when it happened.

Principal contractors are advised by the HSE to ensure that they identify the full range of health risks at work and arrange for appropriate measures to be taken, such as installing safety signs and providing safety gloves when working with hazardous materials.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18682936-ADNFCR
