HSE issues electricity cable warning Construction companies have today been warned about the danger of leaving live electricity cables exposed.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) issued the warning after two workmen suffered serious burns following a cable explosion on a construction site.

HSE inspector Wayne Crumpton said the incident had been completely avoidable and had resulted in the two workers sustaining "horrific injuries".

"This incident could so easily have resulted in multiple fatalities and the message must go home to all those responsible for electrical systems on construction sites that this is a harsh environment and one that needs managing well," he commented.

According to recent HSE figures, 100 workers suffer burns and electric shocks every year, with around 30 people dying as a result of their injuries.
