HSE issues gas safety warning The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning relating to safety when dealing with gas equipment.

Its announcement comes after two prosecutions in the last two months relating to the incorrect maintenance and installation of gas appliances.

According to HSE statistics, 16 people died during 2005-06 due to carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty gas appliances.

It is possible to buy safety equipment that warns of carbon monoxide leaks, such as carbon monoxide alarms, which are available from as little as £29.36 from reputable suppliers.

The HSE said that people and businesses should make sure that any work carried out on gas appliances is carried about by a professional workman who is licensed by CORGI to do the job.

Calling carbon monoxide "the silent killer", the HSE recommends that rooms where gas appliances are installed are well ventilated and is strongly in support of carbon monoxide alarms.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18428940-ADNFCR
