HSE issues machine safety warning Employers have been reminded of the importance of implementing safe workplace machinery procedure by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The safety regulator has called on businesses to ensure they put into place appropriate safety procedures to protect against the risk posed by machinery, particularly in cases where equipment is modified, and called for better management of such matters.

HSE's warning follows an incident which saw punitive action taken against an organisation after two men suffered serious on-site injuries when their hands became entangled in an industrial machine.

Mike Orr, an investigating inspector for HSE, said: "These two incidents were completely preventable. This case demonstrates the importance of completing a risk assessment when modifying machinery."

The regulator's guidelines on proper machine safety also call for the use of safety signs to be displayed to warn of potential hazards and safety requirements, such as the need for hearing protection around noisy equipment.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19262682-ADNFCR
