HSE issues warning on forklift truck use Companies must adhere to safe systems of work to avoid accidents caused by the use of forklift trucks, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has warned.

Richard Clarke, inspector at the government body, said incidents could be avoided if employers adopt safe working practices when using such equipment to transport and empty containers.

Equipment strapped to trucks must be correctly secured to ensure workers are safe from potential injury, he noted.

Firms also need to ensure the right safety techniques are used and that specialist mechanisms are followed by staff, Mr Clarke said.

"Employers have a responsibility to ensure that the right equipment is used for the job and to ensure that loads are safely secured," he added.

Companies are required to ensure staff can operate in a safe working environment under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Providing personal protective equipment, such as safety boots, as well as training employees in the use of safety signs when moving vehicles could help businesses comply with this legislation.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18987166-ADNFCR
