HSE issues warning over workplace machine hazards A warning has been given by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to urge employers to put into place proper safety provisions to protect employees from the potential danger posed by industrial machines.

In particular, the workplace health watchdog has reminded employers of the risk posed to workers attempting to clear blockages and other instances in which employees are operating in close proximity to moving parts.

The warning comes after an incident in which a worker's finger was severed as he attempted to clear a jam in an industrial thermoforming machine.

Zoe Feather, an inspector for the HSE, said: "Employers who operate machinery are required to establish how this work can be undertaken safely. They must also put in place adequate safeguards and safe working practices."

Health and safety precautions recommended by the HSE include the provision of appropriate personal protective equipment, as well as the use of safety signs to instruct employees on health risks.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19212154-ADNFCR
