HSE organises safety event The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has helped to arrange a free safety event for equestrian businesses across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

The safety authority joined forces with Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire local authorities to host a day of free sessions dedicated to issues specific to the equine industry.

More than 30 delegates attended the sessions, which offered expert presentations on a range of health and safety issues.

In order to help recognise the importance of identifying potential risks, delegates were able to take part in a practical hazard-spotting exercise in a working stable yard.

Penny Leede, HSE lnspector, commented: "Handling and riding horses is a satisfying and enjoyable experience, however it is important to stay safe around horses to avoid unnecessary accidents or injuries."

To reduce the risk of serious injury, Britons are advised to use appropriate workwear.ADNFCR-1200-ID-800066242-ADNFCR
