HSE outlines food industry safety plan The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has pledged to carry out "reactive work" as part of its inspection process towards Britain's food and drink factories.

Investigations will take place in response to "serious injuries and complaints", the HSE said.

Visits to food and drink industry factories will also be carried out during 2009 to ensure health and safety management standards are being upheld at both management level and among workers.

Last month the HSE revealed its long-term strategy management plan in relation to key issues such as falls from height, risk management and the use of safety measures to prevent slips and trips in the workplace.

Firms looking to bolster a health and safety culture within their businesses can train staff on the importance of food industry workwear, as well as using safety signs and safety helmets where required.

The HSE has set up a national Food and Drink Manufacture Health and Safety Forum with a view to encourage and promote safe working practices within the industry.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18968780-ADNFCR
