HSE promotes health issues for safety sign makers The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is launching an event to increase awareness of health and safety issues for workers in the sign manufacturing industry.

The HSE will be allying with the British Signs and Graphics Association to promote the Sign Up! Safely event, aimed at raising awareness of the risks involved with the process of producing signs.

Though safety signs in themselves are an essential part of workplace security, the associated manufacturing industry can involve work with hazardous machines and chemicals and the risk of musculoskeletal injury.

One of the event's particular focuses will be to provide advice for those working at height.

HSE inspector Gareth Lewis said: "Sign manufacturers or their contractors often install, remove and clean signs, and this work may well involve working at height. Falls from height are the commonest cause of work-related deaths."

Among the measures recommended by the HSE to avoid the risk of injury while working at height is the use of personal protective equipment such as harnesses and safety helmets.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19212145-ADNFCR
