HSE reveals fall in workplace fatalities in Wales New figures released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have revealed that seven workers were killed at work in Wales between April 1st, 2009, and March 31st, 2010.

This is compared to an average of 13 work-related deaths annually in the past five years in Wales.

Indeed, across Britain, the number of people killed at work has fallen to a new record low with 151 workers dying at work in 2009-10, a 15 per cent fall on the previous lowest total of 178 in the year before.

However, Terry Rose, director of HSE Wales, warned that while the number of work related deaths remains relatively low, "it's simply not good enough that seven people didn't come home from work to their families last year".

"Many of these unnecessary deaths could have been avoided if simple and sensible precautions had been in place, and if workers had been involved in dealing with the risks they face," he said.

To reduce the risk of accidents, employees are encouraged to use appropriate workwear.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19869250-ADNFCR
