HSE takes Shattered Lives campaign to Yorkshire The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is in Yorkshire and Humberside this week, in an effort to demonstrate the impact of flouting health, safety and PPE regulations at work.

Yorkshire will be targeted by the HSE's Shattered Lives campaign, which aims to demonstrate the "devastating consequences" of trips, slips and falls.

Last year 4,466 workers were injured in the region - in accidents which could have been prevented had PPE been used effectively.

HSE head of operations in Yorkshire and Humber Geoff Cox commented: "Each year slips, trips and falls cost the British society nearly £811 million - with over £18.5 million of this coming from South Yorkshire."

Mr Cox added that figures did not reflect the impact that workplace accidents had on employees and their family members.

According to the government, there are a number of steps which can be taken to avoid trips and slips - such as wearing shoes with grips, ensuring that spillages are marked by clear signs and making sure that floors are in good condition.
