HSE takes shattered lives campaign to the east The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched its Shattered Lives campaign in the east today, in an effort to raise awareness about work-related injuries.

Figures released by the body revealed that 2,408 people sustained work-related injuries in the area over the last year, with over half of these accidents caused by trips, slips and falls.

Small businesses are at the greatest risk, the HSE claims, due to "heavier reliance on individual workers".

UK companies are being urged to evaluate their risk management processes before any other preventable accidents take place.

Head of HSE operations in the east, Geoff Baker, said: "Each year slips, trips and falls cost our region over £66 million pounds. But what these figures don't reflect is the extent to which these injuries affect individual workers and their families."

In other HSE news, the body today announced that it had completed its merger with the Health and Safety Commission.
