Union members attending this month's TUC conference can expect to see a number of
safety signs on display.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) intends to make its presence felt at the event, which takes place in Liverpool from September 14th to 17th.
It explained there is evidence to suggest unionised workplaces with a designated person in charge of the welfare of employees tend to have fewer accidents than others.
Employers who do not give staff a say in matters concerning their safety have an average accident rate of 26 per cent, while those who do have one of 14 per cent.
Commenting, HSE chair Judith Hackitt explained it is important to encourage workers to get involved in decisions regarding their welfare.
"Prevention of pain and suffering to people caused by work is the major driver for us all, but doing the right things, the right way also delivers improved productivity, increased workforce commitment and enhanced reputation," she noted.
TUC spokesman and HSE board member Hugh Robertson added worker involvement paired with union backing makes for the safest environments.
Meanwhile, the welfare body recently warned companies to take precautions - such as providing
safety gloves - after a firm was fined for exposing employees to the risk of dermatitis.
