HSE to hold workshops to improve safety in the tyre industry Employers in the tyre industry are to be offered safety advice from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to reduce the risk of injury to workers in the workplace.

According to HSE official and chair of the rubber industry advisory committee Terry Aston, employers face high costs when workers sustain injuries through manual handling, such as back and other muscular injuries.

To help firms improve safety in the workplace, the HSE has teamed up with the National Tyre Distributors Association and the British Tyre Manufacturers Association to run six workshops on tyre handling between January and March.

NTDA director Richard Edy said large numbers of back injuries are caused by workers lifting tyres incorrectly.

Mr Aston added: "We are pleased to work with the industry to have the opportunity to promote best practice. We'll reach a wide audience in the UK."

Employers could also reduce the risk of injuries to employees at work by ensuring workers use safety gloves, safety boots and appropriate workwear.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18958978-ADNFCR
