HSE to host training events for farmers

HSE to host training events for farmers Farmers are set to be given advice on keeping safe in their industry via a series of training events hosted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Almost 8,000 places will be available to agricultural workers, who could learn vital information about staying healthy and accident-free on farms.

HSE head of agriculture Graeme Walker commented: "Many farmers are self-employed or run small family businesses, so we want to make sure they're not putting themselves and their livelihoods at risk with poor health and safety.

"We'll be offering simple tips that won't cost a lot to put into practice and could even help to boost productivity," he added.

Figures from the HSE show farmers are ten times more likely than most other employees to be killed at their place of work, so attending one of the free half-day events could be well worth it.

Farm staff could also benefit from reading safety signs put up around farmyards that give health and safety information.
