HSE to look into lift injury The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating potential violations of health and safety regulations following the injury of an engineer who was struck by a falling object while working in a lift.

Paramedics and a Fire and Rescue group were dispatched to the scene to extract and treat the man who was then rushed to Frenchay Hospital, reports the Western Daily Press.

It is not yet known what hit the worker but his injuries were described as critical and life-threatening.

The sub-contractor's employer announced that it had closed the site in order to help the HSE establish how the incident had occurred.

A spokesperson for the inspectorate commented: "We are aware of this incident and have sent inspectors onto the site to carry out initial inquires to establish what happened."

HSE guidelines recommend that where there is the danger of being hit by falling or flying objects, workers should be provided with safety helmets.
