HSE urges employers to safely manage on-site traffic The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has spoken of the need for strict procedures in workplaces with vehicles.

HSE reminded employers of the need to manage traffic routes around the site to ensure that pedestrians and vehicle drivers are appropriately aware of each other, especially in instances where the two are working in close proximity.

The warning follows an incident which saw a construction firm fined £15,000 after an employee was reversed over by a forklift truck, causing injuries which have prevented him from returning to work for almost two years.

HSE inspector Mhairi Lockwood said: "All companies must assess the risks when pedestrians and vehicles such as forklift trucks work in close proximity and take appropriate precautions which are well documented in HSE guidance."

These precautions include supplying employees with full body hi vis workwear in order to ensure their visibility to the drivers of potentially dangerous vehicles.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19199752-ADNFCR
