HSE warns firms of the dangers of incorrect safety equipment use The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has warned businesses of the dangers involved with transport vehicles if safety equipment is not used correctly.

If firms fail to ensure the safety of their workers then they could face prosecution under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Helen Fuller, a HSE inspector, said: "Anyone involved with workplace transport should be aware of the operational limitations associated with the use of plant and should not underestimate the risks of improper equipment use."

According to HSE figures from 2004-05, 44 employees died during the year from vehicle related accidents. A further 16 self-employed individuals were also killed, as well as ten members of the public.

The same statistics also show 1,782 injuries to employees, with 68 to the self-employed and 171 to the general public, which highlights how important proper safety equipment use can be.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18416087-ADNFCR
