Hazard assessment is important for tradesmen, experts warn Tradesmen have been urged to assess the dangers of each job before starting so they know what safety gear needs to be used.

Norwich Union said this could help them identify potential dangers and work out what equipment - such as safety helmets - is required.

Phil Grace, liability risk manager at the company, said improving working practices and putting greater emphasis on their welfare could reduce the chance that they will be injured.

He claimed that this does not need to be "an arduous task".

"It simply involves looking at what needs to be done," Mr Grace added.

The expert said tradesmen are regularly required to use chemicals and work with power tools and electricity, all of which could prove dangerous.

Working at height was also pointed out as a regular cause of injury.

The Health and Safety Executive is currently running its Shattered Lives campaign across the country to help prevent injuries in the workplace as a result of falls, slips and trips.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19080298-ADNFCR
