Health and Safety is about saving lives, says HSE

Health and Safety is about saving lives, says HSE The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has reminded Britons that health and safety is about saving lives, not stopping them.

To this end, the safety authority has issued some advice to those who mock the steps taken to improve the conditions in which people work.

"There are few greater myths than that health and safety has gone mad," a spokesperson said.

"During the last four years we've debunked some truly ridiculous misrepresentations of health and safety, including the banning of conkers, firemen's poles and park benches."

A representative of the HSE conceded that the trivialisation of the subject "concerns us".

This trivialisation confuses businesses about their responsibilities and workers about their rights, the representative said.

The HSE runs a Putting the Record Straight section on its website, which answers claims made in local and national publications about health and safety, and risk awareness in the workplace.

To improve health and safety standards, the HSE urges Britons to don appropriate workwear. ADNFCR-1200-ID-800280484-ADNFCR
