Hertfordshire charity efforts knocked back on health and safety grounds A Hertfordshire running club was recently told that its fundraising activities were a breach of health and safety regulations.

Royston Runners asked participants in its fun run to donate cakes as an entry fee, which were later auctioned off for charity, the Hertfordshire Mercury revealed.

Traditionally, all proceeds and any leftover cakes were donated to the local hospital, with patients enjoying the tasty treats.

However, Friends of Royston Hospital told the club committee that they could not accept cakes without knowing the kitchens they had been prepared in met health and safety standards.

"We didn't argue and gave the cakes to Richard Cox House, but it's unfortunate and I feel sorry for the people [in the hospital] because they don't get much pleasure," Royston Runners chairman Maurice Hill told the newspaper.

The article revealed that the nationwide ban on hospitals accepting cakes has been in place for a number of years, but this is the first time Royston Hospital has enforced it.

In other news, a food retailer in London was recently fined after an employee was left seriously injured in an accident involving a forklift truck.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19487130-ADNFCR
