IOSH lays down Big Four health and safety challenges The Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) has outlined what it considers to be the four most important issues concerning workplace safety.

Creating societal risk intelligence, helping small businesses with risk management, providing health and safety advice and attaining "better health through better work" are described as the Big Four challenges in IOSH's new manifesto.

The institution sees the implementation of proper standards and advice on issues such as safety equipment and clothing, as well as education for young people, as essential to curbing the estimated 229,000 workplace injuries that occur annually.

IOSH chief executive Rob Strange said: "Health and safety is a true friend to business, but there's still a long way to go to convince some employers of this. We need to press on with making the workplace healthier."

Last week IOSH president Nattasha Freeman spoke to a national newspaper about the "unfortunate and unjust" image suffered by health and safety initiatives in the UK, before talking about the importance of reducing work-related illness.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19164243-ADNFCR
