Key dangers in agriculture highlighted by HSE

Key dangers in agriculture highlighted by HSE Agriculture workers are most at risk from accidents involving transport, work at height or falling objects, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has said.

The three areas were highlighted by the government body as the most common causes of work-related deaths in the last ten years.

It comes amid the launch of its new campaign, Come Home Safe, which invites farmers to attach "promise ribbons" to potentially dangerous pieces of machinery as a reminder to work as safely as possible.

Farmers tackling tough weather conditions during outside work could also consider using equipment such as safety boots to reduce the risk of slips and trips.

Commenting on the campaign, National Farmers' Union south-east environment adviser John Archer said: "Any death is a death too many, yet all too frequently someone dies in a farm accident."

His comments follow those made by David Cole, HSE inspector in the agricultural industry, who urged farmers to take extra care when working with vehicles, machinery and livestock.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19001354-ADNFCR
