Kwik-Fit supports EU tyre safety regulations A leading vehicle replacement firm has welcomed new EU plans designed to improve overall tyre safety, Tyre Press reports.

Kwik-Fit endorsed the new regulations which are making drivers aware of the individual performance characteristics of every new tyre on the market.

The EU regulation states that from November 1st, 2012, all new tyres must be labelled according to their fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise performance.

Mike Wise, head of Kwik-Fit Fleet, stressed that vehicle manufacturers should not "compromise on safety".

He told the website: "With tyres accounting for up to a quarter of the fuel consumption of a vehicle, good tyres are vital to reducing fuel and CO2 emissions."

Meanwhile, the National Travel Survey estimates that the total number of road casualties in the UK each year is about 800,000.

As a consequence of previous accidents, cyclists and road-runners are advised to wear high visibility jackets to make sure that they are avoided by vehicles.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19599532-ADNFCR
