Lanarkshire farm safety event aims to reduce deaths Lanarkshire farmers are being encouraged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to attend a free half-day event for practical advice in dealing with the dangers of working in agriculture.

According to the latest figures from the safety authority, eight agricultural workers died in Scotland in 2009-2010, while a further 78 major injuries were reported.

Indeed, the agricultural industry remains one of the most dangerous in Great Britain.

The HSE has therefore designed the safety day to feature practical demonstrations focusing on the daily hazards which farm workers face.

"The events in Lanark will provide an excellent opportunity for local farmers to get practical advice on how to take action to avoid people being killed, injured or made ill on their farm," remarked Katie Dunlop, a HSE Inspector.

"HSE has run many of these events over the years, and farmers who have attended them have told us that they found them helpful and worthwhile."

As part of the event, farmers will be reminded of the importance of using appropriate workwear.ADNFCR-1200-ID-800239320-ADNFCR
