Large sums of money spent on PPE Large sums of money are being spent on personal protective equipment (PPE), in moves which highlight the importance of safety equipment to those in all manner of industries.

In the US, $1.55 million (£780,000) is being spent by the state of Texas to provide extra PPE as well as safety training, according to North Texas eNews.

Elsewhere, $175,000 is being spent on the same thing in St Louis, Misouri, the St Louis Business Journal reported.

The news comes not long after the report that major oil companies are spending close to $1 billion on extra safety precautions to aid the health of their employees.

John Conryn, a US senator who made the Texas announcement, said: "This funding will provide additional equipment and training to help assure they have the resources needed to do their jobs."

The US has also been spending money on PPE for other countries in the world, including the provision of safety equipment to authorities dealing with bird flu in Pakistan.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18405096-ADNFCR
