Man killed in forklift accident A 49-year-old man was killed after a forklift truck slashed his leg while he was working a night shift.

The father-of-three was struck by one of the prongs on the vehicle when it was reversing carrying a number of pallets.

After being rushed to a nearby hospital he was pronounced dead due to haemorrhaging as a result of the laceration.

The jury presiding over the investigation returned a verdict of accidental death.

The incident highlights the need for constant vigilance and proper training when working with heavy machinery.

Ensuring that work environments feature well-lit safety signs, strong safety boots and safety helmets may help to minimise the number of tragedies of this sort.

Recently a southern transport company was fined by the Health and Safety Executive after its failure to provide suitable safety signs and lighting resulted in another forklift accident.
