Motorists given safety reminder Motorists in Calderdale have been reminded of the dangers posed by driving while on their phone.

In 2009, 413 fines were handed out by police in Calderdale. And the year before, the figure was 428, while it was 363 in 2007.

Sergeant Chris Boyd, head of Calderdale's roads policing team, told the publication: "It is illegal to use any of the functions of a hand held mobile phone while driving.

"Doing so is not only distracting but affects your ability to control your vehicle, increasing the potential for a collision."

Drivers caught will face at the very least a £60 fine and three points on their driving licence, he added.
