Movie criticised for failing to show PPE A blockbuster movie has been criticised by a higher education blog for failing to show any use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

I Am Legend, the Will Smith film scheduled for release on Boxing Day, caught the ire of one reviewer from the Chronicle of Higher Education who decided to dissect it from a scientific point of view.

Discussing rules about animal care, the article brought up "notable lapses" including a lack of a dedicated facility and "no personal protective equipment".

The premise of the film is that Smith's character is the last man alive after a virus wiped out 99 per cent of the world's population.

According to the Health & Safety Executive, there are numerous hazards involved when working with laboratory animals including dust that can cause occupational asthma.

For these situations it is suggested that workers wear respiratory equipment.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18399254-ADNFCR
