Myths undermining safety equipment, council says

Myths undermining safety equipment, council says Health and safety 'myths' are detrimental to the use of safety equipment, a local authority has implied - announcing that it is to join with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in trying to eradicate unhelpful rumours.

Powys county council is to take part in the HSE's sensible risk management campaign, currently running around the UK. A representative signed on the dotted line on Wednesday.

Council spokesman Mark Kerr said that myths were undermining safety in the workplace.

"We've all heard the stories about health and safety banning hanging baskets or making children wear goggles to play conkers," said Terry Rose, regional director for the HSE.

"This is not what we are about - it is not what HSE wants, not what Powys council wants and not what the law requires."

The HSE issues a new poster every month targeting different myths, an example being the idea that safety signs are needed for every task.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18449262-ADNFCR
