NURS: Good morale can boost safety levels

NURS: Good morale can boost safety levels Encouraging a good attitude towards safety in the workplace can give safety levels a boost, according to the training and consultancy manager of Norwich Union Risk Services (NURS).

John Phillips said that having the best policies and proper procedures in place is inconsequential if employees have a poor attitude to training in the safety arena.

He suggested "rewarding safe behaviour, as well as clamping down on poor practices", as a way for employers to keep moral levels - and therefore safety levels - high.

"Rather than beating people up with a stick, organisations ought to introduce simple measures that minimise the potential for accidents by promoting positive behaviours," Mr Phillips said, according to the NURS website.

Last year, research from Affinity Health at Work revealed that employees would take fewer days off sick if they felt their managers were more able to handle their wellbeing, the NURS website claims.
