New safety equipment-related advisory panel welcomed by HSC A new safety equipment-related organisation, the Risk and Regulation Advisory Council (RRAC), has had its founding welcomed by the Health & Safety Commission (HSC).

Judith Hackitt, the HSC's chairperson, said she believes the new body will help with public risk issues as well as aiding in the definition of the role of regulators and policy makers.

"In recent years 'Elf & Safety' has become a universal excuse for banning many low risk activities and often in situations where there is actually no regulatory requirement at all," she said.

"We have long promoted a common sense approach to risk and very much look forward to working with the RRAC to identify new ways to take this principle further."

The HSC linked the RRAC with risk assessment, a process which firms are legally required to carry out in order to ensure safety, according to the Health & Safety Executive.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18430391-ADNFCR
