New swine flu vaccination programme revealed A new programme in which the nine million people most at risk of swine flu will be vaccinated against the virus is set to be rolled out, it has been announced.

The hope is the initiative will reduce the number of people admitted to hospital with severe symptoms.

Around five million at-risk people between the age of six months and 65 years will be vaccinated first, before half a million pregnant women.

Following this, 500,000 people who live with patients with low immune systems and 3.5 million over the age of 65 will be targeted.

Commenting, health secretary Andy Burnham said the action is seen as the most obvious way of tackling the issue.

"The vaccine is the best line of defence against this virus and I would strongly urge all of those in the at-risk groups, as well as frontline health and social care workers to have the vaccine," he said.

Business Link suggests companies erect signs to educate employees on how to avoid, identify and deal with swine flu.
