Oil and Gas Awards honour health and safety policymakers A number of professionals have been awarded for their exemplary attitude towards keeping others safe in the workplace, the Safety & Health Practitioner reported.

According to the publication, the UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards 2011 held last week honoured those who had worked hard to deliver policies in their workplaces that benefit employees' wellbeing.

Oil & Gas UK chief executive Malcolm Webb told the magazine: "This year's UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards have once again attracted a truly exceptional standard of entries across the board, proving that offshore workers and their companies are fully committed to safety.

"The winners really stand out as some of this industry's shining lights and it is fitting that we celebrate their achievements," he added.

Graham Spencer of Marathon Oil UK won the award for Safety Leadership, while Wood Group's David Mackenzie walked away with the award for Most Promising Individual.

Companies which operate on offshore rigs could put up safety signs to replicate the success of the award winners.
