PPE and the laundry industry

PPE and the laundry industry Personal protective equipment (PPE) has a close relationship with the laundry industry, it has been claimed.

Not only do laundry firms have to wear the safety equipment while dealing with certain items, but they also spend time having to clean PPE as well, according to American Laundry News (ALN).

Hygiene guidance regarding healthcare, issued by the American centres for disease control and prevention, states: "Institutions are required to launder garments used as personal protective equipment and uniforms visibly soiled with blood or infective material."

Soiled PPE items should be kept in separate bags to avoid possible germ-spreading and once cleaned should be repackaged or covered completely.

Washing at high temperatures (over 70 degrees C) with bleach is one way of removing large amounts of microorganisms, while lower temperatures can also be effective if specific chemicals are used.

ALN is part of American Trade Magazines and deals with commercial, institutional and industrial laundries.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18350439-ADNFCR
