PPE at forefront of falls from height battle Issues relating to personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures are again being raised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

The body recently successfully prosecuted a firm in Merseyside for failing to take correct measures to prevent an accident, which resulted in a builder breaking his arm.

Martin Paren, a spokesperson for the HSE said: "On average one person dies every month at work after falling through a fragile roof or skylight and many others sufferer permanent disabling injury."

He added that there is a "joint legal responsibility" between building owners and contractors to make sure that any work is done safely.

The man who had the accident, John Dyer, fell through a skylight on a "fragile" roof.

Safety equipment suggested by the HSE in relation to fragile roofs are safety nets, scaffolding and appropriate warning signs.

Platforms to support a person's weight are also a necessity, it says.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18362258-ADNFCR
