PPE helps in MRSA fight

PPE helps in MRSA fight Personal protection equipment (PPE) has been used as a means of protecting those in the front line of the battle against the MRSA superbug.

Cleaners at schools in the town of Hamilton in the US state of Ohio have been using such equipment when cleansing rooms, following a number of outbreaks of the bug, reports the Journal News.

Staff carrying out the work are equipped with protective gloves and face masks to ensure they are not affected by any contamination, Mike Burns, director of custodial services in the district told the paper.

The use of personal protective equipment is also important when dealing with the superbug in UK hospitals, where it and other superbugs have proved to be persistent problems.

Earlier this week the government announced a new "deep clean" scheme in an attempt to remove the bug from hospitals through ward-by-ward decontamination, The Press Association reported.
