PPE issues being looked at after worker deaths Issues relating to personal protective equipment (PPE) are being explored in the US following the deaths of two workers in a 20,000-gallon steel tank, it has been reported.

The two workers died of asphyxiation at a commercial dry cleaning company, according to American Laundry News.

"Investigators are trying to determine if PPE was available to the men and if they were trained or instructed to wear such protective gear while cleaning the tank," the publication said.

Wilfredo Larancuent, spokesperson for laundry trade union Unite Here, said that his organisation was "enraged" at the deaths, which he called "preventable and senseless".

The two men involved, Carlos Diaz and Victor Diaz, were power-washing the tank, which police said was not part of either man's usual work. They were laborers and drivers respectively.

According to Delco Cleaning Systems, items of PPE required while power-washing include hard hats, visors, soft-frame safety goggles, gauntlet-type rubber gloves, double-coated synthetic safety suits and special boots.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18384617-ADNFCR
