PPE required as bird flu spreads across Europe Personal protective equipment is yet again being called on to help fight against avian flu, as an outbreak of the bird virus is discovered in Germany.

The potentially devastating virus has been found in Brandenburg, according to WorldPoultry.net - and the strain has been identified as H5N1, which is potentially harmful to humans.

An investigation is being carried as to whether the virus spread from Poland and neighbouring Netherlands is reportedly worried that bird flu has arrived on its doorstep.

Dutch poultry organisation the PPE said that the outbreak "constitutes a reason for Dutch poultry owners to take even stricter hygiene precautions".

The local authorities have cordoned off an area measuring 3 km around the farm, where six chickens were infected.

Safety equipment is likely to be used, as it has in the UK after an outbreak in Suffolk to help prevent any possible spread of the disease.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18397509-ADNFCR
