PPE used in oil clean up

Categories: General Health and Safety |

PPE used in oil clean up Personal protective equipment (PPE) is needed for many different tasks and another example of this is currently being seen in an oil clean-up operation in San Francisco Bay.

The "delicate, exhausting and painstaking process", the San Francisco Chronicle reports, has been going on for the past two weeks since the spillage of 58,000 gallons of oil in the area on November 7th.

Among the PPE needed for the clean up are gloves, boots, facemasks and oil-proof suits.

Due to the difficulty of cleaning oil from some equipment, many of the PPE items are placed into bags and sent to be destroyed.

The Health & Safety Executive says that workers should be warned against getting oil or cleaning agents on their skin.

Respirators are not normally needed when dealing with oil, it says, but it is important that storage is provided so that PPE can stay clear of contamination when not being used.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18362254-ADNFCR
