Planning needed for transport operations, HSE says

Planning needed for transport operations, HSE says Employers must draw up plans before loading goods on to machinery to ensure accidents are avoided, says the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The government body warned firms that loads must be adequately restrained on to moving vehicles so staff and members of the public are not put at risk.

It indicates the importance of safety signs in the workplace, which can be used to separate employees from machinery and ensure members of the public are far away from work-related hazards.

HSE inspector Kevin Jones said friction should never be relied upon to secure loads to moving vehicles.

"Employers must ensure that there is suitable and sufficient planning for transport operations, and make sure that loads are adequately restrained," he added.

Mr Jones' warnings come after HSE investigating inspector Rosemary Leese-Weller recently urged employers to obtain plans of underground electricity cables and carry out scans before staff carry out digging work.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19001351-ADNFCR
